EarFun recently released the third edition of its Free Pro earbuds. Earfun Free Pro 3 provides great quality and control for calls, music, exercise, and more. Not everything about Free Pro 3 is perfect, but at $79, they provide great value and rival many higher-priced devices.
Design
One of the outstanding features of Free Pro 3 is its small size. The case measures just 67 x 50 x 31mm and weighs 41.5g, one of the smallest and lightest on the market. It can easily disappear in your pocket without taking up space.
The buds themselves are also very light, which makes them comfortable to wear for long stretches. The earbuds have small rubber loops to make sure they stay firmly lodged in your ear. I’ve seen some people complain Free Pro 3 not standing firmly in place. I did not have such problems, but I did not use them in extensive workouts.
Free Pro 3 comes with IPX5 water resistance, which means you can easily use it in rain or mist. And you don’t need to worry about sweat. But don’t submerge it in water.
Battery life
Despite the size and weight, Free Pro 3 has a long battery life. The Free Pro 3 buds have a 7.5-hour battery life each, which reduces to about six hours if you turn on ANC. The case’s battery brings the Free Pro 3’s entire charge time to 33 hours. You can charge the battery via the USB-C port on the case.
A 10-minute charge with the case gives you two hours of playtime. The full charge takes around 1.5 hours. Free Pro 3 also supports wireless charging.
Sound quality
The sound quality of Earfun Free Pro 3 is surprisingly good. I’m not a sound engineer, but I can definitely tell the quality rivals that of many higher-priced earbuds. The noise canceling reaches up to 43dB, a good deal of background sound. You can control the level of noise cancellation. And the QuietSmart 2.0 Hybrid ANC includes ambient listening and wind reduction modes.
Earfun provides a companion application that allows you to adjust frequency levels. You can choose from 10 preset EQ configurations or create your own custom profile. Free Pro 3 comes with a Qualcomm System on Chip (Soc) and Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive codec, which produces smooth streaming and improves music quality.
Earfun Free Pro 3 has a decent microphone. It has a six-mic array that improves voice clarity on calls. I’ve tried it on long calls and with different devices and aside from occasional muffled voice in noisy rooms, I was pleased with the results, especially as the battery life allowed me to hold very long Zoom calls without interruptions.
Connectivity and control
Earfun Free Pro 3 comes with Bluetooth 5.3. The connectivity is smooth on laptops and phones. I did not have any problem with connectivity. It also has a Game Mode that reduces lag when gaming and streaming.
Free Pro 3 has a rich set of tap controls, which I’m not a big fan of but can become very useful once you get the hang of it.
Overall, I’m really pleased with the price and quality of Earfun Free Pro 3. It is not AirPods, but this is one of the best you can get for under $100.
